We have seen reports and coverage of severe flooding and scenes of devastation affecting the Indian state of Kerala due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season. The flood, which has been categorised as the worst in nearly a century, has so far claimed 445 victims and displaced a million people. Additionally, more than 10,000 kilometres of roads have been destroyed or damaged and wiped out 50,000 houses.
